Loving Difficult People: What the Bible Says

Let’s be honest…loving difficult people isn’t easy.

Some people hurt us.Some frustrate us. Some make it really hard to respond in a way that reflects Jesus.

But the Bible is clear.

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you…” — Luke 6:27

That’s a different kind of love.

Not based on feelings.

Not based on how someone treats you.

But rooted in obedience and trust in God.

Loving difficult people doesn’t mean ignoring the hurt or pretending everything is okay.

It means choosing:

• grace over reaction

• kindness over bitterness

• patience over frustration

  
  

Even when it’s hard.

The truth is, we can’t do this on our own.

This kind of love comes from God.

And when we pause, pray, and invite Him into the situation…He softens our hearts and helps us respond differently.

Sometimes love looks like forgiveness.Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries.

Sometimes it simply looks like choosing not to react the way you normally would.

If you’re in a season where someone feels hard to love, bring them to God today.

Not to change them first…but to let Him work in you.

Because that’s where real change begins.

A Prayer for Loving Difficult People

Heavenly Father,

You know how hard it can be to love certain people.

You see the hurt, the frustration, and the moments when I want to react instead of respond with grace.

Lord, soften my heart.

Help me to see others the way You see them.

Give me patience when I feel overwhelmed, and kindness when it doesn’t come naturally.

Teach me to love like You—not based on feelings, but rooted in Your truth.

Help me to forgive where I need to forgive, set boundaries where I need wisdom, and respond in a way that honors You.

Fill me with Your peace so I don’t carry bitterness. And remind me that You are always working, even in difficult relationships.
