When Gratitude Feels Hard

There are seasons in life—and in business—when gratitude doesn’t come naturally.
When sales are slow. When prayers feel unanswered. When you’re doing everything “right” and still not seeing results.
In those moments, giving thanks can feel… forced.
But this verse doesn’t say “for everything give thanks.”It says “in everything give thanks.”
That small difference changes everything.
God isn’t asking you to be thankful for the struggle. He’s inviting you to find Him within it.
Gratitude is an Act of Faith
Choosing gratitude in hard seasons is not denial, it’s faith.
It’s saying: “God, I don’t understand this… but I trust You.”
Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s present. From what’s not working to what God is still doing.
And often, what He’s doing behind the scenes is far greater than what you can see in the moment.
For the Christian Businesswoman
If you’re building a business, this verse is especially powerful.
Because business will stretch your faith.
There will be:
Months that feel abundant
Months that feel uncertain
Moments where you question if you’re really called to this
But gratitude keeps your heart grounded.
It reminds you:
God is your provider-not your analytics
Your calling is bigger than one slow season
Growth is happening, even when it’s not visible yet
Gratitude keeps you from building your business on results…and helps you build it on faith.
A Simple Gratitude Practice
When you feel overwhelmed or discouraged, try this:
Write down 3 things you’re thankful for today:
Something in your life
Something in your business
Something God is teaching you
Even on hard days, there is always evidence of His goodness.
A Prayer for Gratitude
Lord,
Thank You for who You are—even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Teach me to have a grateful heart in every season, not just the easy ones. Help me to trust You in the waiting, in the unknown, and in the growth I cannot yet see. Remind me that You are always working for my good. Align my heart with Your will and fill me with peace as I walk it out. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Journal Prompt
Where in your life or business is God asking you to trust Him more and how can you choose gratitude in that area today?
Final Encouragement
Gratitude doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you recognize that God is still present, still good, and still working.
And that… changes everything.
